Ohhh…no…Canada…
I am a non-Indigenous Canadian grappling with the emotions surrounding the confirmation of well more than a thousand unmarked graves at Indian Residential Schools in our country. There are more to come.
A group of Intentional Creativity artists in Canada have created a Facebook Page called Shades of Orange Art Project: Witnessing & Honouring the Children. On our national holiday July 1st, instead of fireworks and celebration, we're opting to paint and reflect. You are welcome to join us Shades of Orange-Morning Creativity Circle- July1, 8am PST
Below are notes from the site page.
Artists - both Indigenous & Allies in Canada and globally- making beautiful imagery in 'Shades of Orange', to show our increasing awareness and support of First Nations, Inuit & Metis who suffered Canada's genocidal Indian Residential school campaign. We join their voices in calling on Canadas government and citizenry to read the Truth & Reconciliation Report, and to take meaningful action on its recommendations- both as individuals and as communities.

We chose Orange, in response and in support of Orange Shirt Day- inspired by 'Phyllis' story' and in solidarity with the Orange Shirt movement. https://www.orangeshirtday.org/phyllis-story.html
All funds raised are donated to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, their families and communities. You can Donate here:

This group of ARTISTS is intended to form a nourishing presence of Creative Spirits who are waxing and waning in Orange for our beautiful relatives and relations... a place to be inspired by the Artworks we share, as well as a place to share your Art process and be witnessed, respected, promoted. WE SUPPORT ARTISTS!
I welcome you to explore with us.
